G2K9
Research has shown that young children feel less pressure when they are reading to a dog than when they are reading to a teacher, classmate or adult. That’s why Canine Reading works! Initially, it serves to build confidence. Ultimately, that newfound confidence translates into better reading under any circumstances.
During Channing's last semester of her senior year at Aspen High School, Channing was a third grade teacher's aid. Twice a week, Channing and Georgie (G2K9) headed to the elementary school, so students could read to Georgie.
Channing uses a variety of techniques to engage students in their reading. Sometimes they “sing” the book; other times they “play” with difficult words until students feel comfortable with them.
G2K9 has since moved to Cincinnati, and—while Channing and Georgie miss their friends in Aspen—they have since made new friends at the Cardinal Pacelli school, where G2K9 do their thing twice a week.
